Dark Horse on DVD & Blu Now!

Today's the day! Dark Horse is now available on both DVD and Blu-Ray from Virgil Films, and the same from Mongrel Media in Canada. All are quite bare-bones (what, did Criterion spoil you?), the menus only sporting Play and Chapter options... not even a trailer or optional subtitles. But it looks great, as any new release should, and it's a terrific film. I mean, granted, this is the guy who runs toddsolondz.com recommending a Todd Solondz film to you, so you should realize I might be a bit predisposed to appreciate it; but for me, it's one of his best films in a long time.

Dark Horse is also available on DVD (and has been for a few weeks) in the UK from Axiom Films and Australia from Reel DVD (pictured). So that's your Regions 1, 2 and 4 covered. The Australian disc even includes the trailer, edging it just ahead of its domestic counterparts. There are no Blu-Ray versions available from Axiom or Reel however.

  1. Do you know if US DVD has Closed Captions or if Australian DVD has subtitles?

    1. Happily, there ARE Closed Caption options on the US DVD. I'm not certain about the Australian DVD, but I've just E-mailed Reel DVD's customer support, so hopefully I'll be able to report back with more info soon. 8)

    2. Thank you very much for your quick and elucidative answer, Werner. This information was lacking in all other sites that I looked for.

    3. No problem. I've also heard back from Reel DVD, and their (Australian) DVD does not have closed captions.

    4. Actually, a correction from Reel DVD: their disc (the Australian one) DOES in fact have closed captions. =)

  2. I have the DVD already. Purchased it from the UK. It is a fantastic film. Thinks George Costanza but edgier/darker. Hope Todd keeps making plenty more flims, but am concerned his audience is shrinking.
