Storytelling DVD Due July 16

Amazon.com, today, has added Storytelling to their DVD catalog as available for preorder (so far, no one else seems to have it listed, but this Tuesday I imagine that will change), with a release date set for July 16th from Warner Home Video. They list an 87 minute running time (which doesn't suggest any restored sequences - see old news), closed captioning and a widescreen picture. ...Still a little early to expect much word by way of extras, restoration (Amazon may well've just taken the running time from the IMDB, not any announced DVD specs) etc.; so let's keep our fingers crossed.

Storytelling soundtrack update

According to Belle & Sebastian's official site (belle&sebastian.co.uk), the soundtrack album for Storytelling is "looking like an early spring release date." The album will feature three original songs by B&S: "Scooby Driver," "I Don't Want To Play Football," and "Storytelling," as well as original music by Shudder to Think's Nathan Larson and the Cardigans' Nina Persson. Belle & Sebastian's next album, then, will reportedly feature "several songs and instrumental bits specifically for the film" that wound up "chopped up or excised entirely" from the film (according to Pitchfork Daily Music News (Will Bryant, 1/29/02).

Storytelling In Theatres Now!

As of the 25th, Storytelling has finally opened in NY and LA; and is due to open in "additional cities" on February 8th. But, for those of you who live close enough not to have to wait, you can catch it at:

The Storybook Is Out

Curiously, several days before even Storytelling's limited opening, Faber and Faber's published screenplay hits the streets. First , to answer what is probably your biggest question (it certainly was mine), this does not feature the excised material with James van der Beek, Heather Matarazzo, and Emanuelle Chriqui, nor is there any mention of it in the introduction or anywhere else, except this line at the top of the credits, "Storytelling was firsat shown (in a slightly different cut) at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2001." For the record, the infamous van der Beek stuff did not show at Cannes, either.

Besides the screenplay, Faber and Faber's Storytelling also features "Unhappiness," a two-page introduction by Bruce Wagner, and some black & white photos. Check out a cover scan below:
